Abstract
When cut rose flowers cv. Soma were held in water after dry treatment, the rate of transpiration increased during the first 3 days and then declined. After a longer dry period transpiration and water uptake were the more reduced, likely the cause of a blockage in the stems. A positive water balance occurred until day 3 to 4 was found in the stems which had no leaves. Water balance was positive for a shorter period of time in stems with leaves of 50 and 100%. The water potential and the number of bent neck in between the stems with leaves and the stems without leaves were significantly different.
